The development of the Arctic should not affect either the coronavirus or economic crisis. This was stated today by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev. He spoke at a meeting of the state Commission for development of the Arctic zone of the country. In July a development strategy of the Arctic in the next 15 years will present to President Vladimir Putin. As noted in the discussion: it is too early to draw conclusions as pandemic coronavirus and the decline in hydrocarbon prices will affect the situation, but the government’s plans for the development of the Northern territories will remain unchanged.
Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Chairman of the RF government: “Decided to ask the Ministry for development of Russian Far East and the Arctic, and to himself I will bring the same requirements: none coronaviruses, no economic crises can stretch this period. A year and a half in the Arctic, it should work, there must be a new model of development of macroregion”.
Additionally, in the composition of the state Commission on development of the Arctic includes the Governor of Yamal Dmitry Artyukhov. Today’s meeting was held via video conferencing. So, for example, discussed the preparations for the introduction of preferences for investors in Russia’s Arctic zone. The bill will be soon considered in the state Duma. The second reading is preparing a number of amendments, in particular, is expected to create a special program to support business, who are the indigenous peoples of the North. The members of the Commission considered perspective projects of development of new mineral deposits and the provision of communications in the waters of the Northern sea route.
