The Bank of France tested a “digital Euro”

Банк Франции протестировал «цифровой евро»

The banking regulator France conducted testing of the digital currency CBDC intended for interbank payments. The project is aimed at banks and institutional clients. The population will not use the CBDC.
To explore the possibilities of a pilot project started in March.

In mid-may, the Central Bank in the framework of the project sold the securities for wholesale digital Euro. Counteragents on deals were made by several financial institutions, including Societe Generale Bank.

The experiment used the software that is chosen during the competition on March 27. In the coming weeks the Bank will check the same operations for other software.

In the future, the Bank of France plans to conduct additional tests to test the possibility of participation of parties in other Eurozone countries.

The regulator believes that technology can accelerate cross-border remittances to strengthen financial system and reduce the potential impact stablon Libra.

Note, with the Bank of France can compete with the monetary regulator of the Netherlands, who is also engaged in the design and development of digital currency.
